Mercury Free
Fillings

Mercury-Free Fillings are advanced, biocompatible restorations made from composite resins or ceramics that restore the natural strength and appearance of teeth without the use of toxic metals. At Collective Health Society in Centennial, CO, we have completely eliminated silver amalgam from our practice. Serving the entire Denver Metro area, we provide durable, safe, and aesthetic solutions that protect your tooth structure and your systemic health.

Why We Avoid Amalgam

Traditional “silver” fillings are a mixture of mercury, silver, copper, and tin. Mercury is a potent neurotoxin that can off-gas over time, especially when chewing or grinding.

Beyond toxicity, metal fillings are mechanically flawed. Metal expands and contracts with temperature changes (like drinking hot coffee or cold water) at a different rate than your tooth. Over time, this acts like a wedge, causing:

  • Micro-fractures and cracks in healthy enamel
  • Leakage of bacteria underneath the filling
  • Structural weakness requiring crowns later
  • Grey discoloration of the surrounding tooth

We serve patients from across Denver who want dentistry that strengthens teeth rather than weakening them.

Benefits of
Biomimetic Restoration

Structural Integrity

Unlike metal fillings which are wedged in, biological composites bond directly to the tooth structure. This restores the tooth’s original strength and prevents future fractures.

Invisible Aesthetics

Our materials are custom-shaded to match your natural enamel perfectly. Once placed, they are virtually indistinguishable from your real tooth, restoring your confident smile.

Biocompatible

We use materials that are chemically inert and non-reactive. This eliminates the risk of galvanic currents (battery effect) and allergic reactions common with metals.

Our Materials & Methods

We select only the highest quality materials for durability and safety.

BPA-Free Composite

For small to medium cavities, we use advanced resin composites free from Bis-GMA and BPA derivatives, ensuring hormonal safety especially for children and pregnant women.

Porcelain Inlays & Onlays

For larger restorations, we use lab-fabricated porcelain. These are stronger than fillings and more conservative than crowns, preserving more of your healthy tooth structure.

Ozone Sterilization

Before placing any filling, we treat the tooth with ozone gas. This kills any remaining bacteria in the tubules, preventing recurrent decay and post-operative sensitivity.

Biomimetic Bonding

We use specialized layering techniques that mimic the natural flexibility and hardness of dentin and enamel, reducing stress on the tooth during chewing.

Safe Removal (SMART)

If replacing old mercury fillings, we strictly follow the SMART protocol (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) to protect you from toxic mercury vapor during the process.

Digital Color Matching

We use precise shade guides and photography to ensure your new restoration blends seamlessly with your surrounding teeth for a flawless finish.

Glass Ionomer

For specific cases (like deep cavities or root surfaces), we may use fluoride-free glass ionomer, a bioactive material that bonds chemically to the tooth and releases beneficial minerals.

Micro-Air Abrasion

We often use air abrasion (a gentle spray) instead of a drill to prepare the tooth surface. This increases bond strength and is much more comfortable for the patient.

The Restoration

Process

1

Diagnosis & Options

We use digital X-rays and intraoral cameras to show you the decay or fracture. We discuss whether a direct filling or indirect inlay is best.

2

Preparation & Cleaning

We gently remove the decay. If removing metal, we use rigorous safety barriers. We then disinfect the tooth with ozone gas.

3

Layering & Bonding

We apply the biocompatible material in layers, curing each one with a special light to minimize shrinkage and ensure a strong bond.

4

Shaping & Polishing

We sculpt the material to match your natural bite and polish it to a high shine, making it feel smooth and look invisible.
